All right... I've decided I can post some more information on her now without it changing too radically in the future. So... here.
Her full name is Caroline Orion. She comes from the planet Meruvia, which has two main species: Lerninans (Carrie's species), and Masinians, a race of naturally occurring robots who look just like metal humans.
Meruvia is not part of the Galactic Allaince. They're not isolated from the rest of the galaxy, they know what's going on on other planets for the most part, but they kinda have that Tangean attitude.
One day, Team Lightyear goes there on a diplomatic mission. The rulers of the planet decline, since they loathe everything un-Meruvian, and they ESPECIALLY hate man-made robots...
Carrie, however, is intrigued by the space rangers, and the fact that XR doesn't act like any man-made she's ever known.
At this point you should know that Carrie's job is sort of like a personal nurse. She's assigned to a certain Masinian and takes care of them until they don't need her any more.
Currently, she's between jobs, so her boss thinks it would be a real hoot to assign her to XR...
Needless to say, this doesn't go down well. They soon grow to hate each other, and argue constantly.
Eventually, Carrie decides she's sick of her nurse job AND Meruvia and quits, taking a desk job at Star Command.
Eventually, she realizes she enjoys quarreling with XR to some degree, which is why she was willing to stay near him at Star Command instead to going to Tradeworld or something, and they form an odd love-hate relationship that lasts until a disaster happens and Carrie is left alone on Star Command with XR... who's in bad shape.
She helps him out and after this incident they agree to acknowledge that they really do not hate each other.
This next part is shaky, but... then some weeks later they both go on a Star-Command-sponsored camping trip, headed by Buzz and taking place on Karn.
XR and Carrie get seperated from their group and... bonding... happens.
And stuff.
